Crafty Spam Merchants Can Add You To Their Lists

Friday, October 6th, 2006

If you send any amount of emails on a regular basis or indeed have a mailing list on an autoresponder, you will no doubt have received automated responses from your list telling you they have put in SPAM control software and you need to manually register with them.

Fair enough I hear you say but I’ve just come across a very sly spammer trick.

I received an email (from a spammer) who wrote the following:

I apologize for this automatic reply to your email.
To control spam, I now allow incoming messages only from senders I have approved beforehand.
If you would like to be added to my list of approved senders, please fill out the short request form (see link below). Once I approve you, I will receive your original message in my inbox. You do not need to resend your message. I apologize for this one-time inconvenience.
Click the link below to fill out the request:”
Naturally enough I did not include the link above - nor did I click it as it would just tell the spammer they had a live address.
So beware of any such confirmations you may come across in your inbox - I know it’s easy to have your brain out of gear and just click on the link (due to previous conditioning) but it will inevitably lead to pain if you do with a lot of lost time filtering the rubbish from your inbox.

5 Steps To Increase Your Web Site Conversion

Friday, October 6th, 2006

You may well be aware of the KISS acronym:

Keep It Simple Stupid!

It’s a good one to remember when you are designing your website. It must have a logical flow/funnel to bring your visitors through. Too many choices leads to confusion. So the underlying simplicity of your site and it’s web pages is of paramount importance.

Here are several ways to keep your pages simple, and increase conversions.

1. One “Theme” on the page.

If you can keep your focus having information related to a single theme/topic per page, this will help keep visitors “on track” immensely.

Readers will not flit from one side of the page to another if they have a single option in terms of information displayed, they read in a linear fashion. This means you need to give them fewer (not more) hyperlinking choices.

2. Keep your sentences simple.

There’s no point using big/complex words where a shorter easier description will do. Waffly messages or convoluted ways of explaining things will lose your reader rather than impress them.
3. Minimise the use of pictures

One or two quality images can support your sales message. You should test wheter the addition or omission of graphics will help or hurt your sales conversion. Err on the side of caution by minimizing your use of graphics.

Too many graphics distract your readers.
4. Offers Should Be Simple

Too many puchasing options can lead to confusion and ultimately a reduction in conversion rates with your visitors.

Try to have a single purchasing option and when it comes to images - this is a good time to have one, namely showing which types of credit cards you accept.

5. Simplify Your Forms

Be they sales or subscription, your forms need to be kept simple and short. The longer they become, the worse the response rate. If the information is not needed on the form, rip it off.
So rather than loving your site - KISS it!

All the best,

Tom

High Income Business Opportunities With Minimal Risk

Wednesday, September 27th, 2006

We all would love to have gifted to us high income business opportunities - ideally with little or no risk and indeed little or no money down.

The fact of the matter is somewhat different. The simple truth is as follows:

High Income Business Opportunities usually:

1. Are High Risk

2. Require Investment

3. Require Time/Effort On Your Part

Naturally there are exceptions to every rule but the above will stand you in good stead.

And with all the above said, what high income opportunities are available to you as a business bearing in mind you want to mitigate your risk/limit your exposure.

Opportunity #1 - The EBay Monster

With over 200,000,000 registered users this is a massive marketplace selling every conceivable item you could imagine. There are estimated to be over 800,000 people making a full time living on EBay alone and using the 80/20 rule - 20% of them are doing it well. If you could be one of those 20% you would be laughing all the way to the bank - literally.

There is a small problem - time and money. You’ll need to “invest” both to become proficient in selling on EBay (trust me on this) or else you’ll end up with your wallet in a financial sling.

The following is a course you might want to consider - it is the “Rolls Royce” of it’s type so you will pay a premium for it:

Auction Genius Course

It will arm you well and save you considerable time/money thus reducing your risk.

Opportunity #2 - The Network Marketing Model

There are 2 major issues with this model:

1. Pyramid schemes - These are fraudulent (also called Ponzi) schemes setup with the express purpose of separating you from your hard earned cash. Far too many people have been deterred from legitimate network marketing opportunities as a result. This is why you have to exert due diligence when choosing a specific opportunity - be very careful and do you research before you join up.
2. Focus - Most people who get involved in the Network Marketing industry (I know because I was one of these who made this mistake - so take heed!) subscribe to too many “opportunities” - this means they spread themselves too thinly and as a result make little or no progress in their chosen system. If you are going to join up and get involved, do so by taking “baby steps”:

2a. Make sure you join up with one system and get to know it inside out as well as how to promote it.

2b. Make sure the product behind the “opportunity” is high quality and has a genuine market outside of the network marketers who join in the first place!

2c. Make sure you invest only as much as you can afford to spend (there’s no point spending $100/month+ on subscriptions if you cannot afford it).

2d. Give it a fair chance - honestly try your best for at least 6 months with the systems/tools provided and see if it really delivers. If you have done the above and still see no results, you will have learned a lot to apply on another opportunity and have saved yourself a lot of time and effort moving forward.

Given the above caveats, there is a simple way I can recommend you to get started as it meets all the above criteria:

The .ws Website Opportunity

Opportunity #3 - Education

This is more “preventative” rather than an opportunity. In order for you to reap the rewards of any business you sow. In addition, there are a huge number of ideas contained within this resource which will stand you in good stead whilst you research more high income business opportunities.

If you “educate yourself”, you “insure yourself” from the ignorance of not knowing the risks which inevitably face you.

There is one resource I know which fits the bill and it’s by the business marketing mastermind himself: Jay Abraham.

I have personally invested in one of his very high ticket items (and it was worth every penny) but he has recently released a convenient digital version of his hugely popular Mr X book.

Quite simply brilliant:

Mr X - The Business Marketing Bible

The above resources should give you some food for thought when you next look for a high income opportunity.

Above all else remember this:

“If it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

How about you - have you spotted any business opportunities you know to be fantastic?

All the best,

Tom

Blogs - Optimization For Your Target Audience

Friday, September 15th, 2006

First up whatever you’re doing is probably wrong.

Secondly, whatever you’re doing is probably right!

Errr, seems a tad confusing doesn’t it, well the truth is we’re talking about SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and this is just as much an art form as a science.

The good news is, there may not be rules but there are guidelines you can follow to help you get the traffic you want.

1. Have Something Useful To Say

Make sure whatever your post is for it passes the following test:

Read the post yourself and if you have lost the will to live or are bored sh*tless, it’s time to change the content or not bother at all!

2. KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid!)

Avoid acronyms (if you do add them, make sure you explain them straight away) and keep big words to a minimum. If you don’t, you’ll obfuscate the meaning of your message ;-) . Remember, just because it’s common knowledge to you, it isn’t to everyone else - or put another way “We’re all ignorant - only on different subjects”.

(BTW (By The Way) - To obfuscate means to make things more difficult to read, if you’re a pedant you will no doubt supply a stricter definition - along with one for pedant too!)

3. Break It Up

A blog with one sentence crashing into the next, into the next… is very hard to read and comprehend. Split things up with proper use of bold and headlines. Remember you want to keep your reader attentive.

4. Eye Candy

Get your own theme for your blog - make it stand out from the crowd but at the same time be visually easy on the eye and appealing. One thing you don’t want to do is go mad with HTML having colours everywhere, blinking graphics and fonts that blend into the page. You’d be surprised - it still happens in 2006, and those blogs just don’t get read (except for search engine spiders).

5. Titles And Headlines

Spend a little time thinking of a good title - it’s got to be informative, short, snappy and attention grabbing. Oh and if you can incorporate your keywords into your title - way to go! There’s nothing worse than seeing a headline like: “What I Did Today” (Unless you’re a really interesting person who’s already well known) or “Another Post…” - No one will read ‘em.

That’ll do for now, I’ll come back again to add some more at some point (time being what it is, I’ve got to get onto the next task…)

All the best,

Tom

The Affiliate Revenue Model - Getting More From Affiliate Programs On the Web

Sunday, September 10th, 2006

Perhaps you are someone who is Internet aware and want to get more income through affiliation with monetized websites and referring others to them, correct?

Affiliate programs work like so: You earn commissions when you send individuals to sign up, use a service or buy a product with the website you promote.

There are 3 basic types of affiliate programs found in the Web. These are:

1. Per-Click Affiliate Program - The money you receive depends on the number of clicks
generated by your website. The typical payment for such program ranges from US $.01-$.30. This is the lowest among affiliate programs because “clicking” can be generated easily and is susceptible to fraud.

2. Per-Lead Affiliate Program - Payment usually come from “sign-ups” your website generates. When visitors enter their e-mail addresses, phone numbers and other information, you will be compensated. Since generating sign ups are more difficult
than clicks, the range of payment is from US $.10-$5.

3. Per-Sale Affiliate Program - These are the most popular affiliate programs. Also called a “commission” program. You will be paid on the sales generated from your efforts. Commission percentages range from 5-15% for physical products and 25-75% for digital products - depending on your agreement and the type of product sold.

As an affiliate, you need to consider the following:

- Determine your target market before your product. If you know there are ready made customers, finding suitable products is easy.

- The next step is to concentrate on a topic for your website you are strongly interested in. It is better to concentrate on a small area then work around it. After doing this, select affiliate programs closely related to your theme and link them.

- If you are serious in generating more income in lesser time, find out which are hot in the market at the present time. Become adept and well informed in one of these and make sure you link it with affiliate programs suit the theme/topic.

- Try to also consider products which sell well and have a high demand in the Internet. Such products include bargains and coupon sites. Aside from these, information products such as white papers and digital devices give high commissions and good profit margins.

According to an Ernst & Young study computer related gadgets, gears and devices are the most bought items in the market with 40%, followed by books at 20%; travel is 3rd with 16% followed by clothing at 10%; music has a share of 6% and gifts and investment have 4% each.

- Get your own domain name for your website which is unique and memorable. A domain name gives an impression that you are a serious professional.

- Create newsletters you can distribute around the Internet to remind visitors of your website’s presence.

- Make sure you offer good, if not, the best products and services. Quality first or your reputation will suffer.

- Look for affiliate programs paying good commissions, an obvious but oft overlooked issue.

- Track your promotions. These should provide you real time information in determining
which working program you should concentrate on more. Traffic is a valuable commodity, you need to know where you are sending yours and how much it is making you.

- Sign up with companies that offer residual income commissions but be wary of the conditions and stipulations that are stated in affiliate agreements.

- Go easy on promo banners and links and make sure that the affiliate programs you placed share a common theme with the site. Visitors will be turned off when they see a sea of banners and links in the site. Keep your site themed.

- Research companies before signing up with them for affiliate programs. Ask for references and contact them.

Should you be interested in affiliate programs, you can check out sites such as ClickBank (www.clickbank.com), LinkShare

(www.linkshare.com/new) and Commission Junction (www.cj.com). Visit sites such as http://www.refer-it.com/ and

Underachiever Mastery - 30 Days To Success

Monday, June 12th, 2006

Last year, two Internet Marketing luminaries - Frank Kern and Ed Dale ran their first 30 Day Challenge.

Alas, I missed it somehow!

However, I have heard nothing but great reviews of what actually happened. Basically Frank & Ed taught those who signed up how to “fish” (financially speaking) for a lifetime - how to make a successful business online from starting with nothing.

The end game of the 30 days was to take an idea, run with it and make your first $1, just one dollar in sales within the 30 day timeframe.

Not everybody succeeded of course but many, many people did and no-one paid a penny for the learning process.

This is an excellent example of the “Law of Reciprocity” and is truly inspirational.

I’ve just signed up myself and look forward to hearing/seeing more of it.

Here’s the preview podcast - click here

And here’s the actual site: 30 Day Challenge
