You may well be aware of the KISS acronym:
Keep It Simple Stupid!
It’s a good one to remember when you are designing your website. It must have a logical flow/funnel to bring your visitors through. Too many choices leads to confusion. So the underlying simplicity of your site and it’s web pages is of paramount importance.
Here are several ways to keep your pages simple, and increase conversions.
1. One “Theme” on the page.
If you can keep your focus having information related to a single theme/topic per page, this will help keep visitors “on track” immensely.
Readers will not flit from one side of the page to another if they have a single option in terms of information displayed, they read in a linear fashion. This means you need to give them fewer (not more) hyperlinking choices.
2. Keep your sentences simple.
There’s no point using big/complex words where a shorter easier description will do. Waffly messages or convoluted ways of explaining things will lose your reader rather than impress them.
3. Minimise the use of pictures
One or two quality images can support your sales message. You should test wheter the addition or omission of graphics will help or hurt your sales conversion. Err on the side of caution by minimizing your use of graphics.
Too many graphics distract your readers.
4. Offers Should Be Simple
Too many puchasing options can lead to confusion and ultimately a reduction in conversion rates with your visitors.
Try to have a single purchasing option and when it comes to images - this is a good time to have one, namely showing which types of credit cards you accept.
5. Simplify Your Forms
Be they sales or subscription, your forms need to be kept simple and short. The longer they become, the worse the response rate. If the information is not needed on the form, rip it off.
So rather than loving your site - KISS it!
All the best,
Tom
